Student Spotlight: Mairi Campbell

In this post, we took the opportunity to interview one of our talented students and share with you what the student experience is truly like at the Atlantic School of Reflexology. We are pleased to introduce you to Mairi Campbell!

Mairi Campbell, ASR Student

  1. What initially prompted you to search for Reflexology/Holistic Bodywork training? I've spent my entire adult life working in healthcare, and the more I witnessed the more apparent it became that true healing comes from inner balance and the interconnectedness of the person as a whole being. Reflexology and other forms of holistic body work facilitate the work of restoring balance, and allowed me to offer a more well rounded approach.

  2. How did you first hear about the Atlantic School of Reflexology (ASR)?  Many years ago I attended a weekend workshop that Jennifer was offering on working with crystals and spinal unwinding...that brief introduction really impacted me and showed me how powerful the body's intelligence is, and how the body can rebalance itself when given the right circumstances. Years passed but that experience stayed with me, and when I found a chance to train with her again I didn't hesitate. When I decided to seek training in reflexology ASR was the first place I looked.

  3. What made you decide to take courses with ASR? My main reason for choosing ASR was Jennifer...her knowledge, professionalism, warmth and compassion, and she makes learning fun. ASR is also a credible school, and that was important to me. I appreciate the small class sizes, and Jennifer and Carolyn are always very helpful and available if you need any extra help or have questions. Having an online format also makes it very accessible for me to participate.

  4. What courses did you take with ASR? I have taken foot reflexology, hand reflexology, body reflexology, cranio-sacral reflexology, and Indian head massage.

  5. What is your best advice for a prospective student? How can they get the best out of their experience with ASR?  My advice to prospective students would be to practice the training regularly and consistently, with a wide range of people...the more you practice the more you will hone your skills, develop sensitivity, and find more and more ways to apply it. And ask questions...the instructors are a wealth of knowledge, and generous with sharing it with you.

  6. After your studies at ASR, how did you apply the learning? How did it shape your current career direction?

My existing private practice consisted of teaching yoga and offering Thai yoga massage and reiki. Since my training at ASR I have expanded to offering reflexology as a stand-alone treatment, and have used it to enhance, dovetail, or combine it with other types of bodywork for a more comprehensive approach. It allows me to address systemic issues, reaching beyond the musculoskeletal, for a more complete offering. I am currently studying holistic nutrition to add another perspective. These different methods work so harmoniously together, and reflexology is such a great bridge to connect them.
